Will the Pimmit Pipeline be on your street?

Washington Gas intends to install a massive, 24" diameter, 325 psi transmission main as part of their Strip 1 Tysons project through the heart of Pimmit Hills on the route shown below. This transmission main will not serve our neighborhood, but instead pump massive amounts of highly compressed gas to tens of thousands of downstream customers.

Compared to the service mains that actually carry gas to our homes on the same streets shown below, which are only 2" to 4" in diameter, and typically less than 50 psi, the transmission main will carry hundreds of times greater volume of gas then the pipes that actually serve homes.

If you live on these street addresses in Pimmit Hills, your home will be along the planned route through Pimmit Hills or very close to it:

  • Peabody Drive: Both blocks (1800 through 1849)
  • Fisher Drive: 7441 through 7517
  • Cherri Drive:  1920 to 2050
  • Leonard Road: 1948 to 2000
  • Griffith Road: 2020 to 2040
  • Pimmit Drive: 2035 to 2156

If you live near one of these intersections you may also be within 150 feet of the intended route through Pimmit:

  • Peabody Dr & Lisle Ave; Peabody Dr & Griffith Rd
  • Fisher Dr & Prout Pl
  • Cherri Dr & Burfoot StCherri Dr & Dexter Dr
  • Arch Dr & Griffith Rd
  • Pimmit Dr & Paxton Rd;  Pimmit Dr & Howard CtPimmit Dr & Patterson Rd

 Planned Route

The route parallels Pimmit along Magarity Road from Anderson to Peabody Drive (this part was already installed back in 2019).

The actual route through Pimmit has not been started yet. It follows a zig-zag round from Magarity Road and Peabody Drive down to the intersection of Pimmit Drive and Route 7.

If you live along or near the route and want to find out more about what you can do to fight it, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
